What a difference a day makes

When I went to go visit Grady at SVS today I was tired from biking all the way from Redmond to downtown Kirkland. I ate, caught up with Ethan, and then headed out. Halfway there I realized I had forgotten his fleece pineapple. Dang. I really wanted to leave him there with something that would comfort him a little.
When I arrived they took me to an exam room where I waited for them to bring Grady to me. On the phone the vet tech only gave me the basics: Ultrasound good, cells taken, tube in, resting comfortably. I wasn't prepared for what was set in my lap. He was shaved in about four places, had funny-colored medical tape around his neck and ankles, and his face was all goopy from his anesthesia-induced power nap. He didn't look very happy. He looked confused. I could barely hold onto him until the nurse left the room.
My heart broke. "Oh little boogie-wumpus," I blubbered, "I am so sorry!" He didn't notice me. I helped him climb up onto a chair. He looked at me, squinted, then head-butted the arm rest. Ah, right --I'd better get to work. Many skritches were given. I sat on the floor while he snuggled in the crook of my arm, holding my hand between his chin and paw. My other hand rested on his body and he began to purr. We just sat there like that for a while. He misses me. I miss him, too.
I was there for an hour and a half. My leg fell asleep twice. When it came time for me to go, they let me walk him back to his enclosure and put him inside. I left my jacket there with him. It's the least I could do since I forgot the damn pineapple.
On the way home I stopped by the grocery store for bread, was flirted with by a cute brunette at the checkout, then came home to realize my mascara had smeared from me blubbering at the vet. Awesome.

Loves, and best wishes!
