Saturday, 23 June 2007 15:58Lately I've been looking for alternatives to LJ for short bursts of entertainment during the day. I don't login from work, so the good stuff is just not accessible to me until I get home. What's a girl to do? Browse Wikipedia, of course.
In the last week I have learned about the following subjects: Margaret Hilda Thatcher, The Vietnam War (OR The Second Indochine War), The Bee Gees, System Shock (I and II), Outlet Malls, Car Talk, Henery Hawk, and a random breed of bird native to Europe that I needed to know for a crossword puzzle. My brain is full.
I have also learned about Bob Hope, Robert Schuller, Antioxidants, and poop.
Wikipedia has been around for a long time now -- how could I have missed out on this limitless fountain of information? I read the synopsis of Wuthering Heights in ten minutes! AND I know who Beau Brummel is -- why the hell do I know this now?
My state of mind has been stable. The show last Saturday went well except for a completely unplanned encore that we pretty much had to make up as we went along. It was the biggest crowd yet, and for a free show we managed to do pretty well: We made $60. Garret said that some of the cash we collected was from people who heard us off the street. Rehearsals since then have been all about new material. It will be sad to retire some of the songs we've been doing for a couple of years, but it will be necessary to grow creatively.
After our Skylark show we will be picking six or more songs to record for a CD. We've reached the point where we need to expand our fanbase beyond the people who already know us. So for the next show we will be holding a contest. Whoever brings the most new faces to our Skylark show will get a prize. What will the prize be? Gosh, we haven't figured that out yet. It will be a fun prize, even more fun than a TroubleFaker Barbie.
