What did I do today?

Better Than Ezra played an acoustic set at Bothell Landing -- ten minutes away from my home -- today at 2. The "event" they were playing was advertised as starting at noon, so I got there at noon. I didn't find out about the show until this week, so I had no idea what to expect. Keith said he'd show up, but he had car trouble. I decided to be ballsy and introduce myself to the familiar faces parked right in front of the stage (which also happened to be the ONLY shade available, it seemed).
The last couple of shows I had been to there was this young Asian woman right at the front of the line/stage. In the past her approach kind of put me off, but I decided not to let that get to me today. I just introduced myself, and everybody else introduced themselves too. The woman in question was a prominent and visible member of the BTE Street Team, which is why she's so involved. I got a promo sticker for their new album Before The Robots. Later I gave her my card and told her we were always looking for good A&R people at the label. I have no idea if she took me seriously or not. I guess I'll find out soon enough.
The band didn't actually play until later, and their opener was a young woman I'd never heard of named Joy Williams. She was really good, and for some reason seemed to be singing right to me during a couple of her songs. A few lyrics stuck in my head: "you and me, we're not that different" "say goodbye to what you were yesterday" things like that. I guess I'll have to buy her record.
When it came time to play I didn't have my camera. I didn't have anything. Nothing prepared, no goals, nothing. I was relieved that they didn't play 'This Time of Year' because I had told one of my new friends that I had been practicing and wasn't that great yet. I thoroughly enjoyed the set, peppered with traditional lazy-day Southern banter between KG and TD that reminded me of my uncles. Sometimes I wish I had so much self-confidence -- it would mean nothing could get in my way. Seeing these guys play is always inspiring to me, and always gives my determination a swift kick, making me want to put my money where my mouth is.
At any rate, the show was a lot of fun, I got a sunburn on my face, and managed to score a guitar pick with the BTE logo printed on it.
