Goofy-looking Chicken Creature

I am debating if I should antique him or go full-color. Word to the wise: Full-color is not my forte. Plus, I have no idea what color scheme to go with. Reds, like fire? Blues, like tropical? Yellows, like Big Bird? Any of you Photoshop wizards are welcome to post a doctored version of this pic to inspire me. That's lovely too.. I'd go for coloring, the red sounds good.. maybe some oranges too.
