TEN GOOD THINGS
Saturday, 23 August 2008 18:38For every post I make where I whine about how awful things are, I'm just gonna hafta write about good things. Because, seriously, it's never as bad as I usually make it out to be. That's my grandmother talking, and I really don't want to be as miserable as she is.
Without further ado, here are ten good things:
1. My thighs no longer rub together.
Go ahead, roll your eyes and/or groan, but this is a big thing. When the weight started falling off of me, I knew I had made progress when I realized I could walk without any contact between appendages whatsoever. My first thought was not "hey! I'm losing weight," but "finally, maybe my pants will last a little longer now without developing those unfortunate holes..."
2. Grady.
For every time he annoys me with his hovering ways, there are several times where I look over and he's sitting or napping very close by. He seems to instinctively know when I have to be out of bed early to make an appointment, and when the best time for me to head for bed is. When I sneeze, he says "bless you." What more could I ask for?
3. Webcam!
I bought a webcam, and it has only proven to me that I look pretty good. What a difference losing a chin makes.
4. The Troublefakers
Even after Ethan and Laurel have long left the fold, I remain blessed to be surrounded by the members of my band. I worry sometimes that I'm not doing right by them, but they are more than happy to speak up if I'm about to do something wrong. They've also been very supportive. I feel like these guys are my true immediate family, all looking out for each other and doing something we love. All that's missing is everybody moving into a huge abandoned boxcar together.
5. Iced Tea
Since it started getting hot I have been making a new pitcher of iced tea every other day. There's something about a good batch of iced tea that takes me back to the screen porch, listening to the grownups tell stories and push each others' buttons while sitting on old rocking chairs. I add my favorite sweetener to it, so it's not exactly like what my mother and her sisters drank, but at least I drink a whole lot of it. Gotta stay hydrated.
6. Bills are paid
Luckily there is enough money coming in from unemployment to get my cable, mobile, power, and credit card bills paid this month. There will be enough left over to pay the mortgage. I won't lose the house or anything, but I may lose another ten pounds.
7. Interviews!
I went to an interview on Friday and it went pretty well. I'm not sure if the man interviewing me was just being polite or was actually impressed with me. I'd like to think he was impressed, since he'd been conducting similar interviews for several hours before seeing me. We'll see. I have another interview coming up next week. Interviews are good practice and bring me a lot of hope.
8. The Sims 2
Now that I've returned to The Sims 2, I want all the damn expansion packs. This isn't bad, it just gives me something to look forward to. With the huge transitions I've been going through this year and all the new friends I've made, I am happy to see my current batch of sims die off, and look forward to creating new ones. Time-consuming, but very fun. If I can't control my own life, these guys are programmed to let me control theirs.
9. Twenty years gone by
I got a set of DVDs in the mail from my 20 year high school reunion. I don't miss high school, but it is fun to see what interesting adults my classmates became. The DVD had video footage from the campus tour, the gathering at The Pub, and the banquet, along with a bunch of classmate information. Over 400 people graduated in my class, but only 5% have kept in touch with reunion organizers, and the others are still being tracked down. A lot of old friends on these DVDs, and I'm still getting email from them. I'm glad none of my close high school buddies turned out to be serial killers.
10. PAX
I'm looking forward to this in a way I can't describe, and it looks like I'll have company for Friday and Saturday. All I need now is someone to come with me on Sunday. I already have most of my schedule mapped out, and I can't wait to see what's in the exhibition room this year. I also have a friend who will be there all weekend, working one of the booths. I'm covered.
11. Friends
I know I said ten, but I didn't want to leave this one out. I am glad I have friends. Even when I am feeling sad and withdrawn, I'm happy for the support of the friends that have stuck by me and have introduced themselves through this part of my life. Worth your weight in gold, you are.

24/8/08 19:33 (UTC)Loved, loved this book as a kid. I still have a particular way of thinking of milk, bread and blueberries from this book! (That there were more, that's just weird though.)
Also, thighs not rubbing together, priceless! Go you!

25/8/08 10:17 (UTC)It's a big deal honey. I haven't been able to do that since I was 12-ish. And I'm not a big girl... O_o
