Lighting was a challenge, but I figured it out. It's amazing what you can do with an umbrella, aluminum foil, duct tape, and a leftover basking lamp. Oh, and don't forget the extra mic stand. Whew. Setup took forever. Pictures took ten minutes. I put my favorite into a new user icon. You can see the full pic here.

Yes, it's Photoshopped. No, it's not Photoshopped to death -- I chose to make nice a few things while keeping the flaws that give my face character. Share your Photoshop stories with me!

Thanks! There's only four years difference between this and my default userpic -- and I tried to leave the wrinkles IN.

I like it!

Most of my photoshopping consists of turning up the saturation, but that doesn't work so well on pictures of people. Occasionally I will whiten teeth as per these instructions (http://gimps.de/en/tutorials/gimp/picture-photo-image/teeth-whitening/)

Instead of saturation, try adjusting the levels. Really makes images pop.

I used the curves feature and a layer mask for most of my changes and found it easier than trying to lasso pieces I wanted to change.

You look Fab, I'd love to see the others.

The limitations of my camera and my own self-critic made it difficult to choose one that a) looked like me, b) had a truly natural smile, and c) didn't over accentuate the flaws I was most embarrassed about. There's one other I'm going to try and turn into line art and use in a flyer -- I may need your help on that.

great pic!

the only things i generally do in pics is take out visible blemishes and touch up the "snot line" on my nose - its from constantly wiping my nose up as a kid and i have this line that goes across. in close ups i'll smudge it out because it just bugs me. whiten teeth on some folks, fix any things that shouldn't be there (food in teeth, spot on shirt, flyaway hair), etc.. but that's mostly for pics i'm going to print out or send to family. otherwise i leave them alone.

I have a mole on my chin that bugs the hell out of me, so I usually blot that out (someday... SOMEDAY I will go have it removed), and there was one userpic I actually went in and changed the direction my eyes were looking because I thought I looked cross-eyed.

In this pic, I:
Adjusted color levels
Adjusted brightness/contrast
removed shine from face
evened out skin tone all over
reduced wrinkles
enhanced eye color
added digital make-up on eyes and brows
whitened teeth

I am still self-conscious of my teeth -- my gumline has been uneven since jr. high -- but I guess that's just going to have to be part of my lotto-funded extreme makeover down the line.
