I love this dress, and it has nothing to do with the model and her career-limiting hairdo. I love the color, I love the kitsch, I love the cut... but it does not come in my size. What do I do? I decide I'm going to make one of my own!

Easier said than done. There's a reason they can't keep this one in stock -- the fabric it's made out of is hard-to-find and rumored to be out-of-print. I learned this when I went online to find it for myself.

I found a lot of lovely fabrics, though. None of them are stretchy like the dresses I posted earlier, but that's not an issue if you're making the frock yourself. I want something colorful on a black background, with the designs no larger than my hand -- kind of like the fabric from the dress in the link -- and they should be close enough together that you see more design than the background. I found a pretty nice skulls & roses design online. The only thing that makes me hesitate about it is that I saw potholders made out of the same fabric down at the Fireworks gallery and really don't want to be associated with that.

I'm thinking retro, guitars, day of the dead, casino, and comic book themes, but mainly COLOR ON BLACK. If you're killing time online at the office today while everyone else has left early for their vacation, feel free to post some suggestions. I have a list of my own, but am curious to see what you come up with.

Most of my fabric shopping is for solid colors but http://www.reprodepot.com/ has some fun stuff.
