238, 535, 560... nope.
Wednesday, 4 June 2008 17:33I had resolved myself to walking three miles a day just getting to and from work. This didn't bother me much (it's about a mile and back to make a grocery run), but after I overdid it my first week by getting lost and aching for days afterward I was hoping something else would pop up as an option.
My coworkers heard what my commute consisted of and were horrified. "But there's a 560 that stops right out there!" they told me, pointing at the road I could see out the window. Well don't I feel silly for walking all that way. I looked up the route and decided I would do that when my legs were in too much pain to make the regular walk.
I drove in on Monday (rehearsal) and Tuesday (doctor's appt), and today was my first commute using the 560 to get from the Bellevue TC to the office. I missed my connection to it by less than a minute and could either say "screw it" and walk, or wait 20 minutes until the next one showed up. I decided I wanted a latte. Besides, I really needed to know where the 560 actually goes.
After standing around with my latte for 20 minutes the bus shows up. The entire trip to (what I thought was) the closest bus stop turned out to be five minutes. Huh. I got off the bus and walked 20 minutes to the office. Well that was hardly worth it.
BUT -- I got to see a vole! He ended up in a big puddle trying to get away from me and wasn't very happy about that. No bunnies today. Ducks, meh. This office complex is teeming with wildlife. It makes taking an afternoon walk very, very interesting.
Tomorrow I do the bike thing. I need to get used to it sooner or later.
