I managed to get a loaner bike from [livejournal.com profile] kistha over the weekend. Just wanted to give a shout-out to her and her husband for that. I'm still getting used to riding again -- I really need to look up the cycling laws around here, because it's been twenty years or more since I've cycled regularly. Now they make everyone wear a space cadet hat. I'm not sure I like that rule at all.

There's another bike in my garage that my in-laws were nice enough to clean up and give me a few years ago. The only problem is that it's rather tall, or at least that's what I noticed when I tried to ride it the first time. That, and I was so heavy it seemed like by simply riding it I made the tires flat.

I don't know what to do with this bicycle. It's perfectly good and has a really nice gel seat on it. Early on I suggested giving it back to my in-laws, but Garret was irritated by that. I never appreciated anything his family did for me, he'd say (this is untrue in so many ways. I don't think his family ever received a thank you card until I entered the picture. I'm plenty grateful, thankewverymuch). It's been in my possession unused for the last three and a half years, and because it's a a gift and used to be his mother's I don't think it's my place to sell it. Maybe I'm strange that way.

So I have this new (to me) bike. I rode around in circles in my cul-de-sac tonight after I took the garbage to the curb. If the weatherman hadn't said "thunderstorms" I would have ridden it in today. I even have a space cadet hat to go with it -- it's white and has "Google" printed on it. Heh. Thing is, this bike is so much easier for me to get on and off of. I can stop it easily without worrying about bruising my groin or falling over into traffic. I feel incredibly guilty for not having this level of comfort with the bike already in my garage.

I think Allison might be able to use it and we can go ride together. She's a little taller than me and was pretty excited at the thought of just dinkin' around on our bikes like a couple of ten-year-olds. Come to think of it, I'm kind of excited about that, too.
