It's all about the PANTS
Monday, 25 February 2008 20:12As many of you know (because I never shut up about it) I have lost approximately 30lbs since the beginning of November 2007. Just before this time I went out and bought new work clothes so I could make a good impression at work. These clothes came from Lame Giant and were roughly size 16. I also bought some clothes from Macy's, but they don't vanity size like LG does. I have no idea what sizes I bought, actually. All I know is that these nearly-new clothes don't fit me anymore and I have no cash to buy ones that do.
What's a girl to do? Pull out the sewing machine and make alterations, that's what. Taking them to a tailor would have cost the same as replacing them, so I might as well spend ten bucks on some quality thread and just do it. Easier said than done.
All the places I went to online said to take in the rear seam to tighten up the waist. I ripped out the rear seam (the one that goes down the asscrack, for those of you following along at home) and started to adjust. As soon as I realized that this method was going to make my back pockets overlap I knew this wasn't going to work. I'd have to take in the side seams, too.
Taking at least four inches out of the waist and seat of a pair of jeans has left me with a big pile of denim draped across my coffee table. If I put them on now I would have two flaps in the back and two flaps in the front -- like a big denim banana. I'm not anywhere near being done ripping out seams. Once I got the rear and the hips pinned it became clear that I'd have to take in the thighs, too. Crap.
This is my new project. Forget the rest of the painting, or clearing what's-his-name's things out of the garage... THIS is what I will be doing for a while.
The good news is that once I figure this out, I'll be able to do it faster for the next three pairs of pants that need it. Gotta learn somehow, right?
