So now we have a decorated Fir corpse in our living room. "Isn't it nice?" Garret kept asking me over and over. All I could picture is this sad little tree emoting "let me die.. let me die.." while we watered it and fed it tree vitamins. I guess if I wasn't so obsessed with it being a formerly living thing I would probably think that yes, it's very pretty.

Sorry, but my childhood tree excitement was all about pulling ours out of storage on putting it together, knowing that once we got the lights, garland, ornaments, and tinsel on it it would look full and fluffy. I didn't know anyone who made a big deal of cutting down their own tree.

But, I guess I had to experience it for myself. We went to the tree farm in Redmond (on 202) and cut down a 7' fir tree for about $31. Muddy, but fun. I can see where Garret finds this an important holiday ritual.

We rearranged our living room and dining room for the tree. Much arguing ensued, but it got done. We even vacuumed. Whoa.

Didn't do any candymaking, but I got some claywork done--little faux gingerbread men gift tags that double as keepsake ornaments.

I gave up on Christmas cards this year. Not gonna send any. Well, maybe two or three. Instead, I'm going to practice not feeling guilty for abstaining from this ritual. I have better things to do -- like not stress out.
