Thanks for writing to us. The closure of 116th Avenue NE is not permanent. We are raising the elevation of the roadway to meet the height of the new bridge we built over I-405 at NE 128th Street. The blocks you see are geofoam fill. This is a lightweight but strong material that allows us to raise the elevation of the roadway without adding more weight than the previous roadway, preventing additional settlement of the soil.

The contractor’s work to rebuild 116th Ave. NE from NE 128th Street south to McDonald's has been delayed by weather and wetlands-related issues. The contractor is making progress but the work is labor intensive and very slow going. We now expect to complete reconstruction of this roadway in the first quarter of 2008. We may be able to open the street in a limited configuration sooner, but this is very weather dependent.
