The tremble, the nausea, the weight loss, the odd sleep pattern, and other complaints turned out to be anemia. According to the note on the bloodwork results my doctor sent me, I am "most definitely anemic." This is not something I ever thought would be associated with my person. Other people become anemic. I avoid red meat because of the heart disease in my family. Looks like it backfired.

Work is picking up. I can say with confidence that I am being challenged by my job. It's kind of exciting, really. I would much rather manage people instead of processes, though. If all goes well I have ten months to go. My goal is the experience, not the employment. It is too early to say if I'd accept a full-time offer. I'm not that experienced.

Nothing else has changed. I am in a holding pattern. Grady is getting fat and constantly begs for food. There is nothing else I can share at the moment -- I'm running out of steam (@#!! anemia) and really need to get some sleep.

You are all in my thoughts. I celebrate with your happinesses, ache with your pains, and contemplate the observations. Fuck, I'm tired.

Anemic? What exactly do you need to do to cope with that? Strange thing, that.

Get some sleep dear, you're in my thoughts, too.

The type of anemia I have is best treated with iron supplements. My red blood cells are small and few, which is a sign of iron deficiency. I can eat more meat and iron-rich foods, or I can take supplements. I may do a little of both, because iron supplements can cause digestive problems if the dosage is incorrect. Lucky for me it's an easy fix.

In any case, I hope you'll feel better soon.

at least now you have a diagnosis -- do you just now need to eat more foods rich in iron (aren't there veggies that will do that instead of red meat?) or supplements...

A little of both. I'm not fond of spinach and don't know how to cook it. Beef liver is the most iron-rich food out there, but... yick. I liked it as a little kid, but I also liked eating dirt. My tastes have changed a bit since then.

A small list of iron rich food

* Seafood: Fish (cod, sardines, tuna, clams, oysters, shrimp)
* Poultry: Chicken, eggs, yolk
* Lean Red Meats: Beef, lamb, veal, pork, liver
* Nuts and Beans Soybeans: dried beans, hazelnuts, almonds, lentils, peanuts
* Vegetables: Broccoli, chard, spinach, greens, asparagus, turnips, parsley, kale, watercress, brussel sprouts
* Beans: Green, lima, peas, chick peas, garbanzo
* Fruits/Sweets: Dates, prunes, figs, apricots, apples, raisins, chocolate, coconut
* Fruits/Vegetables (if eaten at the same meal as iron source): Citrus fruits, tomatoes, oranges, cabbage, lemons, green peppers, limes, grapefruits, tangerines, cantaloupes, tangelos
* Bread and Cereals: Enriched, fortfied and whole grain breads and cereals are often high in iron (check label)
* Grains: Wild rice, corn meal, oats, soybean, wheat, bran, rye, buckwheat, popcorn, barley, wheat germ, millet
* Cereals: Farina, cream of wheat, shredded wheat
* Milk and Dairy: Poor sources of iron: milk, cheeses (all types, cottage cheese, ice cream, yogurt). These hinder the absorption of iron. Do not use these foods one hour before or one hour after the ingestion of the high iron foods and iron supplements.

Don't forget spinach. Plenty of iron there, and in other tough inedible greens too . . . Good in scrambles though.
