I should probably do something about the monster picture below. I won't. Most of you have really big friends' lists, so it won't be a problem for too long.

The claywork is still a struggle. Recently I finished a piece to the point where I felt comfortable giving it as a gift. The creature below was made from Super Sculpey, painted, and antiqued with diluted green and brown paints. I found it easier to do than figuring out colored Sculpey III clays and taking the time to mix them to the shade desired. It's much less tedious to mix paint.

unfinished dragon
finished dragon

I'm not a fantasy person. I picked up the idea from another artist and decided to toy with it a bit with some antiquing techniques. The result is something I am pleased with, and I may make more dragons of my own design in the future. They're pretty and easy and can lead to other creations. This dragon was a gift to my friend Amanda for her bridal shower.

I don't know if it is the angle or the color.

But the unfinished dragon looks happy and child-like. The antiqued one looks much more fearsome.

What sea gaagii said --

The first one looks cute and playful.

The antiquing turns it into a sinister gargoyle.

I suspect it might partially be that the unpainted one you can picture the eyes colored smiling, then after painting, with no smiling eyes, it now looks as it should: and that is as a sightless creature of the dark.

But really cool, too!

I really like the little ending curl of the tail.
