Go see it, it's worth the full admission. If I tell you too much about it I'll ruin the surprise.

Saturday I negotiated a date with Garret. We went to dinner and planned for the movie but ended up with half an hour to kill. We ended up at Borders bookstore, where he ordered a coffee and we looked at C++ books. I was a bit overwhelmed. So many books and very little of them are written in a Wynne-friendly manner. They're all thick, all have the same description text on their spines and backs, and none of them stand out. I started to make a little fun of myself:

"Aren't there any girly C++ books?"
"There's a pink one..."
"Oooh, a cookbook! Maybe that's in language I can understand."

Yes, the O'Reilly C++ Cookbook is pink and white. We chuckled a little to each other and looked up to see a Middle Eastern man staring at us with his mouth open. "Now I've heard everything," he said.

I'm not a complete idiot, I'm just horribly intimidated by sheer number of books available on the subject. All of them are comprehensive and detailed, usually written by people who know their stuff. Unfortunately, none of them really stand out. You can't just pick the thickest one and crack it open.

Besides, it seems that C++ is on its way out. C# is the way to go, so says my husband. He says it's easier to read, simpler to write, and faster to compile than C++ or older languages. Maybe I'll look into it. It would change my resume drastically if it turned out I enjoyed it.
