The article is about Warhammer, which I know nothing about. I read most of it anyway. The accompanying artwork reminds me of Judge Dredd, though. These two things are related? I'm very confused. Someone please sum up for me why this is not Judge Dredd.

I read the JD comic in the 80's and thought it was kewl. Stallone screwed it up by making the movie.

Warhammer's ok, but I'm more of a Guild Wars girl... ^_^

And for the record, Stallone would screw everything up if he made it into a movie. ;p

Warhammer 40,000 is an ultra-violent, over-the-top setting for table-top miniature battles.

On the surfact, it looks like evil orcs with chainsaws and laser guns, but when you look close, all the races -- eldar, humans, dwarves, etc. are all hyper-fundamentalist, genocidal mainiacs.

There is no "good" side in that universe.

To answer your primary question, Warhammer is an English Minatures rules game system. The art was (like much English fantasy and Sci-Fi artwork) was heavily influenced by Judge Dredd and the other 2000AD comics.

So this is why I saw Dredd in that illustration. I wonder if they'll continue that influence -- I don't know if the art featured is old news or a peek of things to come.

Both styles are typically gothic and that's still present in Judge Dredd and it's the foundation of the Warhammer art style, so that's a yes.
