Moved in... FINALLY.

What the hell is it about Asian guys lip-sync'ing to boy bands? I don't get it. It's hilarious, but I still don't get it. I get it about as much as I get CamKaraoke.com.
On the home front, things are improving while other things are degrading. I've almost unpacked the entire kitchen -- the cupboards are full, leaving the drawers and lower cabinets to fill. The kitchen is the first new construction in this 1968-built house. Our new neighbors told us that before it went on sale, our property still had its original kitchen. That would have been interesting. I can't help but think it would have been even more interesting to be able to design my own kitchen instead of having to work with this slap job. The cabinets are too high and their doors don't open wide enough for me to reach some things. I'll work on that.
A day or so after we had moved all our food into the new kitchen we noticed that our ice cream was turning into soft-serve. This was upsetting. No amount of adjusting settings remedied this. The fridge was the only appliance in the kitchen the seller didn't replace. Now I'm wondering if we'll even be able to get it out of the kitchen to make room for a new one. Things just aren't measuring up. So we're holding off on grocery shopping for a bit until we can remedy this. Looks like the check we got back from escrow will be going toward a new fridge.
On a good note, though, repairs and other adjustments are going pretty well. Grady was kept in a bedroom for a couple of days and stuck to us like glue until we let him start to wander. He's adjusted really well -- better than we expected him to. The neighborhood has some roaming cats that like to sit in the front yard and harrass him. They'll meow back and forth until one of us stomps in and hollers "what in the world are you hollering at?"
In the meantime Grady has lost his collar. We think that maybe he lost it trying to get into the many cabinets we now have. We haven't really looked, but I'm sure that's where we'll find it: lying on the floor of a lower cabinet, all alone and missing his furry black neck.
Overall I'm just now getting excited about owning a house. It's a little overwhelming, all the things that need to be done, and I wonder if I'll ever get around to taking care of them. So much paint, so much unpacking, so much gastric distress... It will all get done eventually, I'm sure.
I'm thinking a housewarming will have to wait until January, but man will it be a good one -- I fully expect a handful of musicians to show up and set up shop in my dining room, maybe a half a dozen kids, some neighbors -- so if you're in the area drop me a line and I'll see if I can get you a ticket. ;-)
With all the work we've done and the stress I've endured through this fall it looks like Christmas will be kept as simple as possible this year. No travel, no big shopping expeditions or expenditures, maybe one party. I'll be lucky to get some crafts done this time around.
So, I'm doing alright. I don't have anything set up at home so any email I get is retrieved at work. Fun!
Now I've got to get back to work.
