So busy I forgot to be happy
Monday, 8 March 2004 23:02My sister-in-law took me shopping on Sunday as my personal rock n' roll stylist, a gift for helping her write the resume that got her the upscale retail job she applied for. In another week or two the band will be posing for "publicity shots" (in quotes because they'll probably look more like snapshots than portraits), and I want to look like I've got an inflated ego.
We went to a few consignment shops and vintage clothing stores for ideas. I tried on the most crap at Buffalo Exchange and bought only two tops out of the eight I took to the dressing room. They were both size L. I'm glad that I'm not as fat as I used to be, but I'm still difficult to shop for. The larges I bought were comfortably snug. There was one black/neon tee that would have worked really well, but they wanted $35 for it. It's a fucking tee-shirt, I don't pay more than $15 for tee-shirts. That's just wack.
We didn't find the awesome jacket to complete the look, but I saw enough near-misses to know what to look for on my own. I think my SIL wanted to talk me into some new pants... I'm a little too attached to my jeans to go that far for a look. Maybe if things look like they're progressing I'll do that.
I'm often tempted to write off my sister-in-law as a brainless twitterbug (as I am most twenty-somethings). Lucky for me I got some time in with her that made me realize there's something underneath all that materialistic posturing. Just 'cause she's a debutante doesn't mean she's a waste. I learned a little something about things I didn't realize I should know and got to share some of my experiences with a new audience.
It was a great day. I'm still not paying $35 for a tee-shirt (I can make what that one was for waaaay less).
