A warning about dark chocolate M&M's.
Thursday, 12 May 2005 12:13I have to warn all you dark chocolate fans: Eating too many of those dark chocolate M&M's will make your poop turn bright green.
Not only do I know this from experience, I did my research on it. As it turns out, the candy coating on the dark chocolate M&M's has enough FD&C Blue coloring in it to have such an effect. If you Google "green poop" you'll find at least one article on why this happens. Something about how the dye interacts with certain digestive fluids to create the green color in one's stool. This also happens with certain colors of Kool-Aid.
So, if you haven't already found a bag or two (Fred Meyer has a bunch, don't bother at Target, they're always out), consider this your warning.
