We're moving.
Monday, 4 April 2005 22:14Again. Yeah, it's only been six months since our last move, and I'm just now recovering from the injury I sustained back then, but we really have to go.
It will be my first time living away from this apartment complex since 1996. I've been here a long time. Recent events, though, have made it necessary to leave.
1. This place isn't anywhere near big enough. The last apartment was 1200 square feet, a lot of it closets and storage. This place... not so much. Its only perk is the extra bathroom. Seriously.
2. We want a cat. Our landlady's reneg of her offer to not evict us if we got one really struck a nerve. I know she wasn't happy to have to say no, but we simply MUST have another pet before we bring a child into this world. For all we know, a cat is enough.
3. The college girls next door claim their stereo is broken, but we know better. Club music is heavy on the bass no matter what setting the knob is on, kiddo, and 4 a.m. is no time to be playing it.
4. The commute. Every time the weather changes, the commute turns into a gigantic clusterfuck of cars and the idiots who insist on driving them with one hand attached to their faces via cel phone. "Oh noes! The sun is out! Martha, what on earth do I doooooo?!" Well, hanging up is a good start. Trust me, you aren't THAT important.
and 5. New neighbors. Six months of nothing but club music filtered through our West wall and now this. Our neighbors upstairs snore, drop the toilet seat late at night and first thing in the morning, and argue loudly about who was supposed to set up the coffeemaker. They've been here three days.
I'm a little shocked that we found a place so quickly. I've been checking craigslist for weeks trying to get Garret interested in looking for a place to live. Today we found a condo for rent in Kirkland that not only has a lovely view of Lake Washington, it's walking distance to everything except the grocery store and work (both of which are less than 15 minutes away by car). While I'm rather nauseous about becoming an Eastsider, I'm not going to miss this apartment in the least.
