NO CAR FOR YOU
Saturday, 13 November 2004 12:34Talked to my mechanic on Friday afternoon to see if my car was ready. I was very disappointed to learn it was not, and would not be. Yet another weekend without a car. I'm very upset.
In hindsight, I probably should have taken the insurance company up on the rental car benefit -- but since I didn't think I'd be without my car for so long, I didn't bother. Besides, for $20/day, what could I get? I never realized how dependent I am on my car for little things (like weekends).
As it turns out, the dealership no longer makes dashboards for the 1994 Chevy S-10 Blazer, so a replacement can't be ordered. The shop owner was in Tukwila when I called, on the hunt for a replacement dash in a few different auto yards. I was told that if the search bore fruit I would have my car back Monday afternoon for sure.
That leaves open the possibility that the search would NOT bear fruit. Once I hung up the phone I went online. I found what I needed and called the mechanic back with the information. Last resort, that's what they'll do. I'm not concerned with cost right now -- the difference is only about $50. I think I can swing that.
Did you know that replacement faceplates for car stereos is five times the cost of a brand new stereo? This is why it is so important that if you have a detachable faceplate for your car stereo to remove it from sight when you aren't in your car. My car stereo was worth about $200. To replace the faceplate is about $650. That's why a stereo with the faceplate gone is huge deterrent for a car prowler. I have learned my lesson. Too bad it had to cost so much.
