Cutting back on sweets is much harder than it sounds - I caved and bought a 3 Musketeers bar from vending before yesterday's workout. I really need to stick with grapes & apples...

Below are my latest efforts. The bunnies will go up to the Etsy shop tonight, and the cat... I'm not so sure about that one. Once I'm convinced I can ship him safely he'll go up, too.

...I have no idea if I'm even any good at it, but I know that the pieces I posted on my Etsy site are things I would actually wear. I guess that's the trick to it. Up next: Chocolate Easter bunny pins & magnets.

Share the link if you like. I'm slowly but surely finding my niche.

It went fast

Not even a day after posting it, my "I am Loved" plaque was purchased (thanks, Michelle!) I shared this news with a couple of the people who I had shown the finished product to, and they were a little bummed. "You should make more," they said. I will probably do that. I bought enough balsa wood for it. I like the whole "remind me of good things" theme.

There's a tin in my oven right now with a raised and "gilded" guitar design on its lid. The rest of it is covered in black and silver. Usually I line the inside of the tin with felt, but this time around I'm thinking something else would do. It's got a guitar on it, maybe a music emergency kit? I could insert some foam and include a 9v battery, some slots for picks, and an extra guitar string or something. I dunno. I'm just brainstorming here.

Tonight I finished a violet-and-gold heart-shaped pillow bead that I'm pretty proud of. It's on a satin cord now awaiting some clasps. I have another heart-shaped pillow bead necklace that is done and ready-to-go. I need to whip out the light box and start taking pictures. I know absolutely nothing about jewelry -- hopefully it's nice enough to get someone's attention.

Someone pointed out that there is a lot of testosterone in my house. Even the pets are male. Oh well. At least I'll never have to lift anything heavy or have to struggle for items on a high shelf.

I have at least three other things to post, but I'm a little nervous to. I always worry that the things I make are ugly or poorly crafted. Thanks to Regretsy.com I know that's not necessarily true, but I am a worrier and worry about it anyway. Jewelry supposedly sells -- I just don't wear it so I have no idea what is popular. I have two necklaces that will go up this week. Next week I will post a hinge-top tin with a guitar motif.

One thing I've been thinking of doing is making pins of my stage character. Yeah, I know she and I have the same name, but she's a character, and therefore a brand. It can't hurt to come up with a design and see if it sells at shows or in the Etsy shop.

A patina is applied with either a very dry brush or a very wet one, depending on who you ask and the desired effect. In my case I wanted an antiqued look that would bring out the detail on an otherwise plain piece.

One of these objects has been given the full patina treatment while the other has only had the skull detail done. I can't decide if I should limit the treatment or do the entire thing for the rest I made. Ethan said he likes the one on the right better. I like the full treatment, but my technique could use a little work.

What do you think? I will most likely be posting these Wednesday afternoon.

There's still half a dozen items to list, and not all of them are clay. I hate setting up shop. I'd much rather be making stuff, you know? Coming up with clever things to say to sell stuff is not my strong suit.

Some days...

...I just sing a pointless phrase to myself over and over to keep my brain occupied and amuse myself. The most recent phrase? "Big ol' butt, big ol' butt, big ol' butt, big ol' big ol' butt-butt."

Yeah, I am a grown-up. I also have a college degree and don't do drugs. much. lately.

I'm burning out on Facebook. The only things I like to do are Vampire Wars and Bejeweled Blitz, and one is becoming too hard while the other is becoming too easy. I also get tired of the insta-response to my status updates by phone or text. I'm trying to start a dialog here, just comment on the status and join the fray -- I promise, whatever I wrote is NOT a cry for help.

The wind picked up last night enough to make the power at my house flicker a bit. My computer was on at the time, and I lost a bunch of PhotoShop work I was going to upload to Etsy today.

Grady has a Twitter account now. So far he's not terribly interesting. I think his tweets are deceptively intelligent for how big a doof he is: twitter.com/gradybrownblue

And now my Etsy shop has been set up. It is Wayward Clay Baubles. I thought of "Wicked," but it didn't suit me. I liked "wayward." It's that whole "not all who wander are lost" kind of thing.

Anyway, I'll post the link soon. I want to get a few test items up there first.

Santas

Well, except for the hook on the back, I got a dozen santas done. I just have to bake them, figure out the backing, and bake them again.

Ken made me a signature cane out of clay. It has my initials: WCB. Now all I have to think of is a name for my Etsy store that uses those initials. So far all I can really think of are things like:

Wayward Cat Bellowing
Where Clay Bakes
Wanton Clay Baking
Whipsy Candy Boodle

...yeah, I can't figure it out. I want something a little "out there" that nobody in their right mind would name their store, but I don't want to alienate any buyers.

Wicked Clay Baubles? I dunno. I like the bellowing cat one. It reminds me of Grady.
