fatrockstarThis morning as I was soaking in bed with the television on, Garret came into the bedroom insistent that I get up and "come see this." I was groggy, and his insistence made me panicky and disoriented as he pulled me up. "No, no -- you have to SEE this," he kept saying. As we were walking down the hall he added "I heard a 'clonk' noise and didn't realize what it was at first" -- then it hit me. Oh shit.
Teamun had finally managed to escape his tank.
The poor little putz finally got so far over the edge of the tank rim that he couldn't backpedal back onto his rock and fell out. He was still a little stunned when I got there, sitting atop the power strip on the floor with all four limbs and his head tucked into his shell, blinking at me.
I picked him up and inspected him thoroughly. He squirmed with all his claws, mouth agape. He was cold, but his skin was still moist, so he hadn't been sitting there more than 10-15 minutes. "I tried to grab him, but he hissed at me," Garret said. Oh honey, I told him, that's just the noise he makes when he pulls his head into his shell. I chuckled to myself that Garret would be threatened by Teamun. Teamun is a pussy unless he thinks you're edible, and even then he takes his sweet time figuring out where to bite you.
See, we have been leaving the lid off the tank for a while now because it made T happier when he was basking. It allowed him to stretch out his neck a little more. Once in a while we'd see him peek over the edge, and even sometimes prop up his forelegs on the rim, but he always retreated back to the safety of his rock. We figured he was smart enough to realize the fall would not be pleasant.
Well, we were wrong. My turtle is still, and will always be, a lovable dumbass.
