Fervid. Calefactive. Igneous.
Wednesday, 11 July 2007 18:10Garret is at home attending to the portable a/c and Grady. He's at the tail end of his most recent flareup and is feeling well enough to be productive from home. He probably would have gone to the office today if leaving the a/c to run on its own wasn't a security risk. The downside to any a/c unit, portable OR window-mount, is that a window has to be open to vent them. I might be more open to entertaining the idea if we had a second floor, but we don't.
Here in the blogiverse the locals are complaining about the heat. Over in
seattle the usual sarkiness is going on about the complaining. Apparently the panicked purchasing of a/c units of any type is an over-reaction to a couple of days of hot weather that will eventually pass. I'm not sure I agree with that. It will be hot all summer. I don't know about you, but I'm pretty darn uncomfortable when the thermostat at home says 80. Not sweaty uncomfortable, but the fans are going and I'd rather be cooler. 80 was the heatwave of the 1990's, you know. It would also be nice to set the thermostat to 75, set the alarm, and go to work knowing that my pets are comfortable.
One thing we have to consider is Garret's arthritis. While many arthritic people find relief in warmer climates the opposite is true for Garret. I have not seen evidence that his particular type of arthritis is to blame or Garret's physiology, but if central a/c will keep the home at a temp that doesn't make things worse I think it's a sound investment.
Outside the blogiverse Garret has just informed me that Grady is climbing all over him in his chair and trying to settle on his chest while rubbing his head on his hands and keyboard. "It wouldn't be so bad, but he's a big fat hot furball and won't back off."
My computer is off at home. I have no secrets to tell at this time, so it's not coming back on for a few days.
