Two more photos in the gallery!

My cousin Robin turns 30 today. Since it's Mardi Gras I decided to send her a king cake from Gambino's in NOLA to celebrate. It's a special birthday, after all, and you might as well celebrate. When it arrived she called me and we talked for a good 15 minutes about what her plans were and the family reunion her dad thinks is going to happen in July this year. She has 6-month-old she's taking care of, so too much partying isn't on the menu. The king cake was a good idea.

Garret & I tore into the cake and found it needed some assembly. Once assembled we both managed to eat about a quarter of it, and NEITHER of us got the baby! I guess this means one of my bandmates will be responsible for next year's king cake. I hope they buy an apple-filled one.

I'm guessing the King Cake is some sort of tradition? I've never heard of it really.

It is! Especially in New Orleans for Mardi Gras. Wikipedia has an excellent blurb about king cake, NOLA style: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/King_cake#New_Orleans_king_cake
