Strawberries and Hyundai
Thursday, 24 April 2008 19:40My car went to the shop today. It's where I'm spending over half of my tax refund, actually. Once the contract ends in about two weeks I'll need it. Commuting to work on Eastside buses is doable. General getting around is a pain in the ass.
I got a call this afternoon from the shop telling me that they had encountered a problem with one of the parts they ordered and I would need to leave my car there overnight. I figured this would happen for some reason. They offered me a loaner car and I took it. All I have to pay for is gasoline.
I should probably go shopping or something. If I had any money I would. Surely I can take advantage of having a working car for an evening, right? Thing is, I have very little to do outside the house that would involve driving. I hit the grocery store on the way home. I went to the video store while I was at the grocery store. The bike shop closed at 7.
Except for work and looking for new work, my life has become somewhat dull. This fact does not make me happy.
I would love to move back to my old neighborhood or something just as familiar. I like Ballard, I like Fremont, I like Wedgewood. This place... it's safe. Safe and quiet. I'd rather have a little excitement. If it weren't for Allison I would probably not have anyone to visit or talk to. Half my neighbors are selling their houses, and Grady STILL does not speak English.
So in an effort to make the most of my current situation I will have to practice enjoying what I already have. They're mostly little things:
Strawberries
Spyro for XBox
Wii Fit coming out soon
A nice neighborhood to walk around in
Groceries and a cantina within biking/stumbling distance
People at work who appreciate and respect me
Grady
The friends I've made here, old and new
The friends I've made over the last six months that have helped me through some really tough times
My band
My health
Wow. I guess I have more good things than I thought. I should put this list in a frame somewhere and look at it whenever I'm feeling a pity party coming on. I already have a list of people I love framed on my wall that I get to look at every day. I printed it out years ago. It has about a dozen new names handwritten on it, and two names blacked out with a Sharpie.
Accentuate the positive. I just gotta keep remembering that.
