Wii Wii Wii all the way home
Sunday, 11 March 2007 21:21Garret downloaded the original ToeJam & Earl to our Wii yesterday. I had forgotten how long the game can be. Game Genie, where are you?
I'd blogged about doing it so often but never actually got around to it until this weekend: Spa Day. The Olympus Spa in Lynnwood gets very crowded at noon on Saturday. I probably should have gone in earlier or the day before. A lot of groups and pairs came in this time, and they all had something to talk about. Signs are everywhere encouraging soft voices, but it's not always practical in the pool room with jets going in all four jacuzzis.
The amount of people turned out to not be a problem, though. As a solo visitor I was able to be in my own head and zone out a bit. Once in a while someone would ask me if I could see the clock, or how the spa lockers work, but I was alone a majority of my time there.
I quickly realized that the women filling the pools were there for the Korean body scrub that Olympus offers. It's important to soak for at least 30 minutes in one of the hotter pools to loosen up the dead skin, and that's what they were all doing. Why that didn't occur to me right away I'm not sure. Maybe it's because the last couple of women I recommended the body scrub to weren't as thrilled with it as I was, so I figured I was in the minority.
One of the things I enjoy about being at the spa is the diversity of bodies. Nudity is the great equalizer, I've found. Women with magazine-perfect bodies are rare at the spa. Add the funny little cap they make you wear and everyone is just different combinations of color, shape, and size. Where I can barely show off my underwear in the gym locker room, I'm happy with my body among this crowd. I don't feel like I stand out as beautiful or unsightly. A few months ago I invited a friend of mine to come with me. While it was awkward at first to hang out with someone I knew completely naked, we both got used to it. I can't think of any other close friends I'd be as comfortable with naked.
I'm thinking I should go back next month. After an hour and a half in the pools and mineral rooms my exfoliating in the shower was very productive, and I slept well that night. It was only $30 to hang out there as long as I wanted. I think I can afford that.
