Manic Monday

Garret is working from home today due to back problems. This takes a chunk out of my day, because left to his own devices I will mysteriously find that I am out of key food inventories I had planned on making meals out of. It also means that the cat will most likely be a lot more active during the day, which may or may not be a good thing.

Grady has not barfed since his adventure at the vet. Frankly I don't blame him for freaking out and creating a world of pain for the techs there. I had finally got him calmed down and okay with the idea of working with them when she yanked him out of my arms by the scruff and unceremoniously took him away. Next time they insist on x-rays I'm going to insist on being there with him. There's no need for him to freak out like that if it can be helped.

I applied for unemployment today. Only three employers to account for, but remembering all those dates was a mess. I really should keep better tabs on when and who I'm working for. I ended up going back in my LJ entries for the information I was looking for. I wrote a lot more interesting stuff back then. I wasn't as afraid to rant publicly. I didn't have so many LiveJournalers within arm's reach back then.

It's time for the gym. Today is upper-body day. I'm still walking funny from lower-body day, and will probably take a chunk of my gym time to stretch. I'm down about 4 lbs from last week. This isn't saying much, because last week I had shot UP 4 lbs. I'm low-carbing it for a while, only splurging on apples to curb my tummy trouble. I saw some photos taken of me recently that made me realize what a butterball I've become. Hellooooo, "before" picture!

The UCA show

I almost forgot -- the UCA show from this entry: http://winifred.livejournal.com/351557.html

Good show, I took a lot of pictures. I could go on and on about how I don't understand the lure of working with Big Time Entertainment, but that's for another day. Only one of the other bands on the flyer showed up -- the rest of the bill was filled with acts I had never heard of and couldn't find on the internet. Shame, I had some great photos for them.

UCA went on second and took longer than the time alotted to set up. As a result they started late, but the venue let them play their full 30 minutes. They had the biggest crowd of the night, and even the indie kids were entertained. I guess Keith's showmanship is entertaining after all. His "UCA is in da HOUUUUUUUUUSE" shtick was awkward at first, but it turned out okay once he realized it was more funny than cool.

Popgun Pariahs are a band you HAVE to see. Their frontman reminds me of Jack Black but with messier hair. Lots of screaming, experimental rock that I could barely make out. At one point I heard a lyric that sounded something like "SALLY AND JOHNNY ARE FUCKING OTHER PEOPLE" over and over, which made me smile. I have some great photos of them, too.

So I guess I'll be creating a Picasa web album of all these images so the bands can download them. This depends on if "Tree Frog Culture" and "Fade Right" ever become searchable on Google. I wasn't able to find those bands anywhere, not even on MySpace.
