fatrockstar: (Chook)
I'm freezing my tits off here at work. I can barely feel my fingers to type. Normally I'd bring a sweater to work, but up until today it's always been a little on the warm side.

Not really getting excited about the new Matrix movie. That's all I have to say about that.

Weekend with Dad was good. He always gives out full-size candy bars at Halloween to his trick-or-treaters. I guess that's his little birthday gift to himself every year--the kids really light up when they see them, and they always ALWAYS say "thank you!"

At Dad's I learned how to make his (famous? notorious?) Red Beans & Rice. It's pretty easy. I think I have become a cooking snob because I couldn't help but notice how many dried ingredients he was using to season the red beans. I also learned how to make Dad's Wimp Chili. He sent me home with four quarts of it. Very spicy.

For Halloween I put out a candle and some pizza rolls for Mama. Daddy asked if I was going to put some cookie dough out there, too--I had forgotten how much Mama loved chocolate chip cookie dough. I'll do that next year. This year, the pizza rolls are enough. After the candle was lit for the evening we went inside and remembered Mama fondly.

Dad has a new live-in girlfriend who doesn't talk a lot, but she's really nice. You can tell that someone else is now living in his home, but it doesn't look "taken over," know what I mean? After spending the weekend with her and Dad they seem pretty compatible--you can tell he's working on not being a big bossyhead and she is happy to have him around and appreciates his sense of humor--so I guess I have nothing to worry about. Her daughter is a little whack about them getting together, but I get the impression that her daughter has her own problems. She'll come around.

I splurged on The South Beach Diet on CD and listened to it on the drive back to Seattle. I think I'm going to try it out--it might be just the thing to curb these sugar/carb cravings I've been experiencing, and doesn't seem difficult to follow. The "book" went to great lengths to describe how it works and how other popular diets work, and the who/what/where/why they were developed. I'm still going to exercise, though. I feel compelled to.

Garret's mom was being a real bitch yesterday. When Garret called to tell his mother he was too sick to attend his dad's birthday lunch she complained that he should have cancelled sooner because without twelve people the restaurant wouldn't give them the room she reserved for the lunch. No "I hope you feel better" or "you don't have to eat, but it would be nice for you to attend," just "now it's too late to invite anyone from church to take your place!" He was really upset at how she handled his cancellation and I don't blame him. I told him (and I made him look at me when I said this) "all mamas aren't like that, honey, your mama is just broken--all mamas aren't mean like that."

It seemed to make him feel better.
