hurf vs huck

Grady has been making odd noises for the last couple of days. I don't mean the cute little mewing in his sleep that I've caught him doing, but the belly-gurgling. I have never heard a cat burp or fart before. It was very confusing.

Yesterday I moved into the guest room for a while. I say for a while because the room is small and the window faces my neighbor's kitchen. This has reduced the chances of being woken up by her dogs barking at the morning traffic, BUT now I get woken up at 5:30 by the unfortunate track lighting in her window. It's a goddamn 60-watt flood light pointed right at my face. Not even the fence between us blocks it adequately.

There are several solutions to this, and I will knock down a few:

* Rearrange the furniture: Deciding to move back into the guest room wasn't easy -- I slept in there toward the end of my marriage and didn't want to re-live those months. I determined that by emptying the room and starting from scratch I could set up the furniture in a completely different way, and did. So much for that idea.

* Sleep on the other side of the bed: This is the simplest and best solution. Sometimes the angle is just right. I have a hard time sleeping on the side of the bed furthest from the door, though.

* Close the damn blinds, already: This is a good one, too, but I like to be able to see the sky at night. It has a lot to do with claustrophobia. Maybe I'll have to get over that.

* Talk to my neighbor: I have needed to do this for a while anyway. It's not her fault the neighborhood planners put my sleep space on the same end as her active space, but she should know she's shining a spotlight into her neighbor's bedroom when she goes into the kitchen at 5 a.m. I have similar track lighting in my kitchen (it's incredibly pointless and what all the houses in this community have) but it's blocked off from the outside by blinds. She doesn't have any blinds in that window. Maybe I can lend her some of my leftover paper ones.

Despite this I slept well, actually. The biggest pain in the ass was Grady, who has been harassing me in the mornings for the last couple of days. Last night was frustrating because in the guest room it's easier for him to get in the window. If only he were more graceful.

Our cats tend to fart and smell if they get the wrong kind of food. Have you changed Grady's diet lately?

That's just it, though -- he's not actually making smells. I changed his food two or three months ago without incident, so I'm not sure what would be bothering him now unless it was nerves.
