Win some, lose some

I followed up with an agency I've never really worked for on a position that would have worked really well for me. It's a PM job, but the duties are largely graphic design and customer service. The rep made some calls, arranged an interview, and about an hour ago sent me a confirmation email. I was to receive a phone call from this manager at 11 a.m. on Monday.

Ten minutes later I got an email informing me the interview was cancelled because the position had been filled. This never happens with any other agency except Volt. I don't even know why I give those people the time of day. They've never placed me, and have only managed to land me an interview once. Once. I think I've had it. Next time a Volt rep calls me I'm going to tell them to take me out of their records and stop wasting my time.

At least I can count that toward my state-mandated job search.

I acquired another overseas address to write to via MySpace, so I'll return to letter-writing this weekend if my dad doesn't show up for some reason or another. I wonder if letters from England take a month like letters from Belgium do?

At any rate, I've got some phone calls to make and some job postings to scour. Wish me luck.

Win some, lose some - followup

The guy wrote me back not much later and cancelled the cancellation. I'm back on for Monday at 11.

I successfully applied for a couple of other positions via Monster.com while I was irritated. Job-hunting while angry isn't my activity of choice, but the state has spoken. While on the dole, I must look for work in a very precise way (anger optional).

Legs day, legs day, la la-la la laaaaa-la. I will not be able to walk much this weekend. This could seriously impede my ability to rock out with The TroubleFakers. Do not fear -- I will simply remove the complex dance number and things will proceed as normal.

Grady has a bumblebee costume. Last year he wore a pretty orange holiday ribbon, but this year, since he was so compliant about the Puppia harness and leash, I decided to take a risk and spent $5 for it. It's really hard to find a decent costume for a black male animal. I liked the princess and angel costumes, they just weren't Grady. As a conscientious pet owner, I prefer to issue out humiliation in small doses. I will post a photo of my dear feline in all his bzz bzz glory on Halloween. Yes, he knows it's coming. I had him try it on earlier this week without incident. Maybe that's what made him barf?

Garret is going to work tomorrow. EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE! Time for a sexy party!

Just kidding.

But seriously, I'll be able to pick up around here without the mental block of knowing he's in the other room and not about to turn the corner to ask "why are you throwing THAT out?" 90% of the clutter I put away consists of items he's used once and forgotten about. The other 10% is mail.

Say hello to one of my new icons. I made this Barbie out of carefully selected fabric, a piece I cut out of an old Starbucks card, and a $5 red-haired doll that seriously needed a makeover. The shift supervisor I got along the best with during my 2-month stint at the 'bux was my inspiration. She used to have glasses, but I can't make them stay on the doll's face.
